www.spinpalace.com/uk/ – The Basic Rules of BlackJack
spinpalace.com – Blackjack is by far the most popular card game of all casinos, it is a game that a lot of people refer to as ‘pontoon’. The aim of the game is simple – your cards need to be closer to 21 than the dealers, but if you go over 21 then you ‘bust’ and you will lose your wager. You don’t need to worry what anyone else at the table is doing – all you need to do is concentrate on your own hand.

You place your bet before any cards are drawn by placing chips in the space provided on the table. The dealer then gives one card face up to each player, dealing from left to right – he then deals one to himself (face up), then he deals everyone a second card face up but omits himself. If at this stage anyone has ‘Blackjack’ which is a 10 or a picture card with an ace, the dealer will pay them out at odds of 3/2 unless the dealer himself has a 10, a picture card or an ace – if this is the case then no blackjacks will be paid out at this stage. If the dealer has an ace showing though, he will ask the player if he would like to take even money at this stage as if the dealer at the end gets a blackjack the player will not gain nor lose his wager.
If a player has two of the same value card they can opt to ‘split’ them. This means that cards are split from each other and a further card is placed on each of them, thus creating two hands instead of one – in order to ‘split’ your hand you must double your original stake though. The dealer will then treat your ‘split’ hands as two separate bets and you can draw or stick as usual.
You also have the option of doubling your bet if you are intending to pull another card. If for example your two cards add to a value of 11 it is considered a good idea to double your bet at this stage as there is a high chance of a ten or a picture card being dealt – an exception to this rule perhaps would be if the dealers top card was an ace, as they could possibly draw a ten or a picture, leading to a ‘Blackjack’ which would beat your 21 total.
Once all players have played their hands the dealer will pull his second card, if the total of the dealers two cards add up to 17 or more the dealer must draw no further cards and pay out everyone who has a total of 18 or more at odds of 1/1. Players that have a total of 17 have their stake untouched, and players with a total of less than 17 will have their stake taken. Players that were dealt a ‘Blackjack’ with their first two cards that were not paid out initially by the dealer as the dealer was showing an ace, a 10 or a picture card will now be paid at 3/2 (providing the dealer was not dealt a ‘Blackjack’ – if this was the case then their stake will remain untouched.
